Preparation Checklist Here is a short list of basic preparations we would suggest should be made before travel:
Purchase a good road atlas of Israel. If you look for one online, you will probably be able to find one, otherwise try looking in the airport bookshops.
Rent a car. See our comments on travel and driving in Israel.
Book accommodation. We suggest that you book one place as a starting point for a few days. If you are not coming during a busy period, you will be able to find accomodation as you go and it might give you more flexibility once you are in Israel. We would also recommend not staying in the same place for the duration of your stay, so that you don't always have to travel a long way back to your starting point at the end of each day and set off again the next day. Better to stay somewhere and see all of the local sites for a day or two before moving to a new location.
Arrange to spend a day or two with an Israeli tour guide for a few special sites. For some sites, eg Jerusalem, you would particularly benefit from having a tour guide and in other places it is not necessary. We have made a note of this in our section on 'sites'. We also have a list of excellent believing Israeli tour guides.
