Caesaria

Here you can walk around the Roman ruins of the city of Caesaria, built by Herod the Great, where Paul was tried before Roman governors, before being taken to Rome. The Roman amphitheatre is still standing and you can walk through a large auditorium where there were chariot races and gladiator fights. There is also a replica on display of a stone that was discovered with an inscription to Pilate the governor (before this stone was discovered liberals doubted even his existence). You can also see the outlines of the houses of judgement, where Paul would probably have been tried. Ceasarea was also the home of Phillip the evangelist (Acts 8.40; 21.8) and the home of Cornelius who came to faith with all his household (Acts 10). The city was also important in later history. There is an entrance fee to see the ruins.

Yaffo (Jaffa)

Yaffo is an oancient port city next to Tel Aviv, with many old stone buildings and walkways. The port was used by King Solomon and by Ezra (2 Chronicles 2.16; Ezra 3.7). It is also mentioned in Jonah 1.3. You can see here a home that is thought by some to be the home of Simon the Tanner. Yaffo was also the home of Tabitha (Acts 9.36f). Originally, Tel Aviv began as a suburb of Yaffo.
