This book covers the period between 70 AD and 312 AD. Amongst other subjects and appendices in this book, there are: the dispersion, the Bar-Cochba revolt, a history of the Synagogue, the Jewish calendar, some notes on rabbinical exegesis, and more.

In the author's words:

"It is my conviction that Jewish History casts much light on the accounts of the Gospels, on the book of Acts and on later ecclesiastical history, both in its records of the spread of Christianity, and of the origin and development of heretical sects. It is the peculiar object of this History, not only to give an impartial account of the facts, but especially to describe the state of society, of trades, commerce, agriculture, arts, sciences, theology, etc., during the first centuries of our era."
