The Talmud

Subtitled "What it is and what it knows about Jesus and His followers".

Introduction to the Talmud, the Mishnah and its different sections, who was Yohannan Ben Zakkai, Rabbi Akivah, Gamliel, Shammai, Yehuda Hanassi, etc. Written by a Christian scholar of the 19th century.

From the back cover (a shortened excerpt from the preface):

It is a saying of Monsieur Rénan that "in the history of Christianity, the Talmud has hitherto been far too much neglected." His idea is that the New Testament can only be understood by the light of the Talmud, while the preset work will prove that many thing in the Talmud can only be understood by the light of the New Testament and the history of the church. To do this we have divided the matter in two parts. The first tries to show "What the Talmud is." The second, "What the Talmud has to say about Jesus and the Gospels."...

Review by a customer:

Many people could benefit from reading this work. The history and complexity of the Talmud demonstrates Judaism's love for teachers even if the authors of this ancient work seemed to conflict and contradict each other at every opportunity! It is therefore, no surprise that the first century Jew was so amazed at Jesus' clear and authoritative messages. Rather that refer to the commentary of countless Rabbis, the Messiah simply pointed to the the Holy Scriptures as the truth, never once endorsing the theological giant guarded and presented by the religious elite. How refreshing this must have been to the masses!

In Dr. Pick's book, we see the maze that the Talmud had become and how difficult it is to negotiate its very dark and cluttered corridors. At one point, he describes from the works of many true biblical scholars, how truly difficult it is to find valuable material within its thousands of pages. And yet, we are amazed that the Talmud itself does seem to celebrate, in its concluding volumes, the teachings of the New Testament by casually making reference to many of the teachings of Christ Himself. Dr. Pick shows us where they are.

Thanks to Dr. Pick's effort, we can see where a mountainous collection of religious writings that reach deep into Israel's past, offers little hope in revealing the true Hope of Israel, Jesus Christ. This book is certainly an eye-opener to anyone unfamiliar with the essential texts taught by the most respected Rabbis in Judaism's long history.
