Types, Psalms & Prophecies
In his book, Types, Psalms and Prophecies, David Baron unfolds with the help of God's Holy Spirit, the typological significance of the feasts of Israel in God's prophetic character. He expounds in depth several Psalms, including the beautiful picture of the 'Glorious King and Bridegroom' of Psalm 45, and finishes with a detailed exposition of Isaiah 53. The book includes appendices on 'The arrangement of the sacred calendar' and 'The actual day of the crucifixion, 'the three days and three nights' '.
In his preface, Baron declares the urgent need for 'the continuous systematic unfolding of the Holy Scriptures', showing 'their true connection and interdependence, and their literal sense, and historical concrete basis' before making figurative or practical application. This is no less a need amongst believers today than it was when Baron first felt led of the Holy Spirit to pick up his pen. Baron blames the 'fragmentary, vague, disjointed textual manner in which the Bible is being dealt with' for the shallow Christianity of his day.
Baron goes on to state: 'It is also owing chiefly to this cause, and to the neglect, or misinterpretation of typology and prophecy, and the ignoring of the position of Israel in relation to the purposes of God as revealed in the Scriptures, that the Old Testament has become 'as the words of a book that is sealed' to the majority of professing Christians'. With fervency for the Lord, Baron seeks to correct the ready acceptance amongst believers of 'the most destructive and unjustifiable theories and speculations in reference to the early records of Israel's history', on which record the redemption scheme of God rests.
Using the chief tool of the Hebrew Scriptures, with which Baron was acquainted from childhood, Baron expounds the Scriptures with dependence upon the Holy Spirit. This book stirs love and appreciation for the Lord Jesus.
Baron's exposition of selected passages of Scripture opens the reader's understanding of the entire Bible and the plans and purposes of God. 'In this series of selected types, psalms and prophecies, my readers will find a great variety of truths handled, and though they deal only with a few of the Divine Oracles, yet Scripture being organically interdependent, the true understanding of even one of its integral parts is a great help to the right interpretation of the whole.'
Baron's own desire and prayer to God for this book , was 'that at least in some little way these pages may conduce to the glory of the God of Israel, and of His Anointed, and may prove a help to the understanding of the sacred oracles which alone are able to make men wise unto salvation.' Certainly Baron's prayer has been answered and his work is still published today to the glory of God and His Son Jesus; it continues to be a great help and encouragement to those that love God's Word.
